Fully Present.

Sunday, October 23, 2016

It is never easy to miss out.  Our culture will remind you time and time again of what you miss out on.  Here is a gentle reminder from your momma.  Be fully present where you are.  It sounds so simple, but it is so very hard.  However, just this weekend, I was reminded that if you can grasp it and hold on, you will not be disappointed.

As your momma, I never want to miss out on what you do.  I have to resist wanting to follow you on your every days.  I want to see your face light up and know when you've been hurt.  This weekend your dad and I stole away for thirty hours or so.  All three of you spent time with your grandparents and the stories we came home to made me so excited and, to be truthful, a little momma sad.  You girls got to play games and ride new rides.  Your brother got to go on his first train ride.  I love that you have grandparents that love you so well.  But it was hard for this momma to miss out on your life.  Even if it was just for thirty hours.

But you know what?  I wasn't disappointed.  I wasn't disappointed that I missed out on your world, because I know that I was fully present where I was.  By your dad's side, wandering the driftless region.  I loved seeing your faces light up when we arrived home.  I loved hearing your stories.  Your excitement over our silly tales was the icing on the cake.

You want to never miss out?  Be fully present where you are.
