Be Someone Worth Pursuing.

Sunday, October 9, 2016

Your dad and I, we broke-up.  Twice.  The second time, we were sophomores in college.  It is a good story to hear.  Those expectations had become too high and our spiritual connectivity had done a freaking great job into deceiving us that we were meant for each other.  And yet, we were having a hard time coming up with reasons to stay together.  So, we broke-up.  If you hear me say it once, you'll hear me say it a thousand times.  Just because two people are Christians, doesn't make it an all encompassing grounds for dating and the pursuit of marriage.

Your dad will tell you the exact number of days.  I remember it being a few loooong months.  We both spent time apart and asked the Lord what He would have for us.  What He would have for us individually and what He would have for us together.

Time went by and your dad asked me out on a date in Chicago and for the first time in a long time, I felt giddy inside.  You will absolutely know what this feels like some day.  I couldn't decide what to wear.  It was so cold, it didn't even matter what we wore because we were bundled up like Eskimos.  We were the only two crazy people in a horse drawn carriage that night riding among the hurried shoppers of Michigan Avenue.

It was that night that your dad promised he would never stop pursing me.  And when a man like your dad makes a promise like that, you believe him.  A funny thing happened that night.  I suddenly, more than ever before, wanted to be a woman worth pursing.  If you agree to pursue life with someone, it only seemed natural that one would put the most effort into making it the most beautiful adventure.  I cannot tell you what that will look like for you.  But know, if you set out in your heart and mind to be someone worth pursing, you'll likely find the very one who will make that very same promise to you.

And trust your momma, a promise like that is worth waiting for.
