Put a Nail in It.

We have a nail problem.  As in a hammer-level-measuring tape-and-nail problem.  I have long had a mild obsession with wall collages.  As evidenced in Ila's first nursery, Ona's big girl room, the girls' art nook, and the living room collage.  Needless to say, when we moved we had arm load after arm load of frames.  They are slowly finding their homes.  In fact, I still have a storage room full of frames.  Somebody, I need an intervention.  However, my dorky self began pondering just how many nail holes we have made in the farm house walls thus far.  On the first floor alone, we are at sixty and that doesn't include curtain rods.  Madness.  My heart screams simplicity and yet I feel all contradictory when I say that we have sixty things hanging on our first floor alone.  Oh well, I guess my mantra can be simplicity with a side motto of, "I heart frame collages."  So, I thought I would give a shout out to my handsome side kick for being amazing and facilitating my frame collage obsession with a little round-up of what we have been up to the past few weeks.  So, we purchased the farm a month and half ago, and the main eating area looked like this.

There was a large fan off the kitchen in a carpeted area where the previous owners had their dining table.  Kerry and I laugh on a daily basis and then bend down and kiss our hardwood floor at the thought of having a carpeted eating area with our two girls.  I don't know about your families, but our family is grossly messy when it comes to meals.  That carpet would have been green peas, Nutella toast after a meal or two.  Today, it is looking more like this.

 

So, we have sold half our lives this past month.  Our last house was much larger, and thus we had accumulated soooo much furniture.  My muscles are still slapping me for how much we had to move.  Hindsight is always 20/20, but note-to-self, when moving to a small house, you do not need five couches.  Just saying.  We are digging a much smaller space.  It has come to suite our little family well.  Our idea was to go with a vintage, mid-century modern, cozy feel.

We still need a bit of artwork to go above the girls' art nook.  Don't tell the hubs, but I think a little shopping is in order... and a garage sale in the spring.  The gals' rooms are feeling a bit more settled now too.  We kept the same collage for Ila's room.

Because Ona' room has two windows, we have much less wall space to work with.  It was hard to pick out our favorites, but we ended with a smattering of just about everything. 

Ona requested that the collage include pictures of her and Ila.  For how often she tries to sit, push, hug fiercely, etc., she loves her baby sister something crazy.

Forgive the random tangerine-ish strip on the ceiling.  We need to get crown molding up stat.  The last of our bitty update required twenty-two screws, which were not included in my nail counting escapade.  The kitchen looked like this when we moved in.

And an end cap display on a nine p.m. run to Target lead us to this.

Drawer pulls!  People, this is exciting.  Functional and exciting.  And who knew Target sold hardware?

 

They have changed our finger-wedging-in-the-drawer-butt-crack lives.  If you have lived without drawer pulls, you know exactly what we mean.
