Getting Settled.

Hi friends!  Happy New Year!  I hope that you had a sweet first day of 2014.  We spent the day lounging around the house in our pajamas all.day.long.  What the what?!?  It was glorious.  Since our little sneak peek, we worked pretty much non-stop.  Simply, we wanted to get to a point where we could live without major chaos.  Kerry and I are okay with a little chaos, but throw two gals two and under in the mix, and the chaos jumps to a whole new level.  Just picture our crazy adventurous two year old trying to climb ladders and jumping in freshly swept drywall dust.  And that was minor compared to trying to keep baby fingers out of unplated light sockets and open air vents.  Yea, it was nuts.  However, the dust has been mostly vacuumed and we can walk around without work boots on.  Here is a little before and after action for you.  Let's start at the front door.
The foyer after.
 The living room before.
It is a smidge different today and probably the most drastically different at that.
The kitchen before.  Although more spacious than our last kitchen, the glass cabinets made the space feel cramped and closed off.
So, we became bff's with our sledge hammers and...
The cabinets are forty years old and have layers of shelf liners.  I kind of love them.  I deep cleaned the cabinets before moving in and plan to keep many of them.  In some, I added a padded non-slip liner.
The fireplace room was closed off and full of wood paneling.
Although we totally didn't mind the paneling, we are loving the new open concept.
I had way too much fun decorating the mantle for Christmas.
We have the lamps on the mantel because we do not have any operating overhead lighting in the family room currently.  It will require crawling around in our attic, and we have not mustered the energy as of yet.  My favorite piece on the mantle is this sweet canvas, a gift from my lovely friend, Lindsay.
I love it.  It catches my eye often as I am bustling around the house, and almost instantly, I begin humming the old hymn.  It is good for the soul.  Humming old hymns that is.  One of my most favorite things happened today.  Our twenty six frame collage made the trek to the farm and was rehung today.  Three cheers for my uber patient and outrageously talented with a tape measure husband.
It makes the hallway.  Oh, and I have a new family picture on tap for that center frame compliments of the lovely, Photography by Kyah Jo.  A few random tidbits from this week.  It isn't exactly pleasant on the eyes, but I never knew what I was missing.
I am talking about the under cabinet radio.  I pretty much have it on lightly all day long.  Just enough that I can catch what song is playing when putzing around in there.  It has been the source of many a dance party smack dab in the middle of kitchen.  I am pretty sure Ila is the only one who isn't sick of dancing with me.  No shame.  I coupled these two by accident today and laughed out loud on how cheeky I am without even trying.
Hello...hand...dork, I know.  We have big plans for this area.
Think harvest table and swag light.  Eeek!  Before I can even dream though, I have been told that I must deplete my stash in both garages.  Come on Craiglist, let's be friends.  Despite all of the construction the past two weeks, the yard is what gets us.  I busted out the infamous chippy green chair (here and here) and plunked it down in front of the barn.
Still have a long ways to go, but we are taking a few weeks off to organize our underwear.  You think I kid.  Here's to the adventure!
