Dismembering Animals in the Name of Art.

Wednesday, November 7, 2012

I stumbled across this fantastic post today about spray painting plastic animals, cutting them in half, and then mounting them all in the name of art.  Immediately smitten, I knew I had to make my own rendition for Ona's big girl room.  The girl loves, like really loves dogs.  She spots them across the park, on commercials, in books , everywhere and when she does she starts the cutest bark you have ever heard.  So, I set out on a mission to find plastic doggies.  I scored six doggies, a pig, a rhino, a deer, and a zebra for $4.05 at Party City.
Due to the whole I have a baby brewing in my belly circumstance, I asked my sweet husband to spray paint these babies for me.  We decided on a purple color that we had on hand.  Kerry then hilariously lined them up for execution amputation by channel lock and oscillating hand saw.
The rhino and the zebra were the first victims.
That rhino smile kills me.  It took Kerry about ten minutes in between bursts of belly laughing to wind up with this.
Ah, those butts!  Then we used a few drops of plain old hot glue to adhere the animal heads to a piece of cardstock.
This process took a matter of five minutes and with a little glue stick we adhered the cardstock to the cardboard backing of a square IKEA frame that we also had lying around.
I can honestly say that it turned out better than I thought it would and cannot wait to show my girl in the morning.
My bet is that she will start barking and then try to pet them all.
I've said it before, but the art for Ona's big girl room grows more random by the day.  I can't wait for it all to come together!

Oh, and if you are wondering what happened to the sixth doggie, we accidentally mutilated a little dashund while trying to figure out the best method for dismembering.  Is it just me or do you feel a call from Animal Services coming on?
