We've been remiss in keeping you up-to-date on our little vineyard, but
today is theee day. Because we had that ridiculously nice, super warm
weather in March our vines needed a little TLC earlier than they
normally would. Kerry and I spent a couple afternoons trimming the
vines down so that only two stems remained. The process was fairly
tedious and repetitive and took about five hours. The reason for the
trim is that this is the year we train up two of the stems to begin the upward
growth of the plant. We will be removing the fruit once again this
year, so that the plant can establish an even greater root system.
Here's a little sneak peak of their growth this year.
We will soon be knee deep in trellis making. Ah, to sip a glass of wine made with grapes from the vineyard. Anybody grow their own grapes and make their own wine? Any tips on trellis making?
