March Blues Buster Challenge Week 2

Sunday, March 18, 2012

March Blues Buster Challenge Week #2 has come to a close.  I feel sort of bad even continuing our challenge because if you are reading this from anywhere in the Midwest you can probably join with me in saying that this March has been anything but bluesy.  Seriously, it has been astounding gorgeous weather around these parts.  I even went outside and weeded today IN MARCH.  Nuts!  Anyways, I can't really blame you for the lack of submissions, because if you were like me you were outside enjoying not-so-March-like activities.  I was able to squeeze in a few little projects.

Submission #1::Budget Blooms turned St. Patty decor

Remember my budget blooms turned to seven bouquets from last week?  Well, after nine days of life they are still looking great.  Seriously, every morning I wake up fully anticipating them to be all keeled over and there they are, standing proud.  For St. Patty's Day we were one of four stops on a neighborhood crawl.  It was super fun--lots of great Irish food, drinks, and games.  In honor admission of my lack of St. Patty's Day clover inspired decor, the next best thing was to bring as much green in that I already had around the house for decorating.  Can you guess who found themselves floating in a sea of green food coloring? After trimming the ends of my beloved budget blooms and replacing the water, I added a few drops of green food coloring.  So simple, but so fun!

Submission #2::Burlap Welcome Banner + DIY Fabric Banner

I confess that I finished this last week, but hung it up this week.  So it counts right?  First I made the fabric scrap banner that I first saw here.  Then, I read a bunch of different DIY burlap banner tutorials {just google DIY burlap banner}.  The process was so simple.  I ended up making a cardstock template of a triangle and tracing it directly on the burlap and simply cut them out.  Then using basic fabric glue, I glued my triangles directly to a piece of brown ribbon.  I sealed it with a light press of my clothes iron on cotton setting.  I had picked up a package of iron on letters at Hobby Lobby, centered each letter in the triangle and this is what I was left with.I like the two hanging together there as you walk in the front door.  Totally imperfect, but so in love!

If you want to join in the fun for March Blues Buster Challenge Week 3, email your submissions to spokenforpress@yahoo.com by midnight Saturday, March 24th.  Click here to see more general information on the challenge.

  1. I love the banner! However, I couldn't help but notice the pictures on the wall upstairs. I LOVE the way you have them hung! Are those a bunch of old frames you painted? I just like how random it seems. :)
