Happy Valentine's Day!   Seeing how Valentine's Day falls on a Monday this year, the hubby and I decided to spend a pre-Valentine's Day together this past Saturday...

We awoke super early to take the old Route 20 into downtown Chicago, but not before stopping at an ATM and grabbing two delicious hot chocolates from Starbucks...kind of looses the sense of oldness, but work with us here!

It was really fun to see a bit of old, and probably a lot more new along the route.  We found ourselves discussing the history of Route 20, the creation of the highway, and mostly about our dream trip we've promised ourselves for our five year anniversary [traveling the entire Route 66 in a vintage car with a bench seat...think Grease].  If you've ever doubted our dorkiness, you're welcome for the affirmation.

We wound up at McCormick Place for the 2011 Chicago Auto Show.  Two of Kerry's favorites below.

Then in keeping with the old motif of the day, we made our way to Margie's Candies.  Margie's has been in their same Chicago location for over eighty years!  The inside hasn't changed much.  It was a bit dingy, a bit dirty, a bit crowded, but oh so sweet.  The booths seem original to the location and the icing on the cake was the two old men sitting behind us with their black and white mini tv.  Our vote...they're original too!  Margie's is known for their outrageous portions and delish sundaes.  We ended up ordering about the same thing...brownie sundaes outfitted with three scoops of ice cream [chocolate for me, vanilla for kerry], topped with whipped cream, nuts, a cherry, wafer cookie, and a GRAVY BOAT of homemade fudge.

What a sweet day... more referring to spending the day with my fabulous hubby, as opposed to the sugar overload we walked away with...though, both are valid.

Happy Valentine's Day!  Off to set up a few more surprises...
